The boys are warming up on the court before the start of their game. The bleachers are hard and the music is loud. Mary, a mom of one of Logan’s teammates, leans over to me, “I love Logan’s smile. It lights up his whole face, he looks so happy when he smiles.”
I smile in return. “Thanks.”
We both return to watching our boys, but I can’t stop smiling as I think about her simple comment. Yes, Logan does look happy as he passes the ball and makes a shot. It’s a simple thing really. A smile on an eleven year old boys face as he plays his favorite pass time. Nothing really to think twice about. Except when this boy has suffered so much just four years ago.
It’s simple unless you know the back story. It’s not so simple when you have heard the cries of anguish and pain, which came from the same mouth that now easily turns into a grin. The words of this one mother to my heart were special. I cherish that comment, “He looks so happy when he smiles.”
Yes, he does.
I know some who are reading this post now are in the midst of the pain and anguish. I know it is hard to believe when you are walking through the valley that you will one day smile again.
Yet, the promise is true. My God is a God of restoration and healing. My God binds up the brokenhearted.
Yes, He does.
My God is faithful to His Word. He is the God of the come back, and second chances and new beginnings. Trust Him and hold tight. #focusedfaith #overcomingsuffering #joyofparenting
